The existing driveway and lower car parking areas at the college had fallen into a state of disrepair for and needed improvement for the staff and students. Rio Surfacing were engaged for the project working to a tight timescale during the summer break.
Due to the lack of drainage in these areas, we worked closely with the manufacturer and successfully installed a permeable asphalt concrete surfacing system from sub base to finished binder course layer, to allow excess water to drain freely into the existing water course. New pedestrian walkways and crossings were installed to the lower car park as additional safety precautions for students and staff. All lining works to the front entrance were undertaken after 8.00am in consideration of neighbouring residents.
Works also coincided with other projects on site and results days – therefore it was essential that a safe system of work was implemented to accommodate both of these issues and maintain a safe working zone for students, staff, operatives and members of the public. As standard, a comprehensive RAMS was issued before project commencement and temporary protection was applied to accommodate additional personnel during the works.
