Royal Shrewsbury Hospital – Road Realignment Works
-
Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust
As part of the HTP (Hospital Transformation Programme) Enabling Works – following our successful bid tender presentation, Rio Surfacing were engaged to carry out this essential public funded scheme comprising of the realignment of the main access road within the hospital, the installation of a separate main contractor compound and associated general repair and maintenance works throughout the site. The works were required as part of a major redevelopment programme to provide a complete new hospital facility for the region.
Accessibility was a critical consideration as the works were located adjacent to the Emergency Department, where it was imperative that the entrance and surrounding areas were kept clear and accessible at all times. Due to tight deadlines, a swift mobilisation process was key and strategic timed phasing of all works was essential to ensure effective and safe delivery allowing for full use of existing hospital facilities at the same time.
Numerous external factors resulted in work scope amendments on several occasions during construction, therefore maintaining a strong relationship with the Trust Estates team and other stakeholders, to enable solutions to be discussed and executed in a timely fashion, was crucial. Communication with other contractors on site has also been central to the successful delivery of this project.
Another NHS project successfully delivered by the surfacing team.
