• Hawkenbury Recreation Ground – Car Park Extension

  • Kent

  • Tunbridge Wells Borough Council

Rio Surfacing were engaged by the Council following the successful bid and quality submission, who needed to add an additional car park to provide 29 standard car parking bays and 1 disabled bay serving a community recreation area. The specification required the installation of a permeable and environmentally friendly system capable of providing an effective and serviceable surface area for cars and light goods vehicles. The sustainable self-draining Bodpave system was chosen to provide a robust surface while avoiding the need to discharge surface water into the local drainage system.

Disciplines involved in the construction process were:

  • Site GPR and CAT service survey to establish location and position of utility apparatus
  • Removal of existing grass surfaces to recycling facility
  • Tree removal and shredding removed to local repurposing centre
  • Bulk excavation and groundworks to level the area pre-construction of the car park
  • Ground percolation testing to prove suitability for discharge of stormwater to ground
  • Installation of permeable reinforcement geotextiles, capping layer, and sub bases
  • Installation of Bodpave 85 grid and gravel system to manufacturers approved specification
  • Installation of perimeter diamond recycled low level fence
  • General making good to disturbed landscaped surfaces and complete site clean

One of many surfacing projects we have completed for Local Authorities across the country.
