• Fenland District Council – Highway Reconstruction & Improvement Works to Access Road

  • Cambridgeshire

Following the Council’s stringent contractor vetting procedure, Rio Surfacing were successful in our bid to carry out urgent reconstruction works to an aged and heavily worn residential access road and path leading to a community recreation ground.

These works primarily involved:

  • The excavation and reconstruction of the existing carriageway to remove the existing inadequate construction, with its undulating reinforced concrete slab surfaces and patch areas of deteriorating macadam surface.
  • Installation of new precast concrete kerbing laid to new levels along both sides of the carriageway, incorporating pedestrian and vehicular crossing points at relevant locations to service properties.
  • Installation of new precast concrete drainage channels installed along both sides of the straight sections of carriageway to aid in removal of rain and storm water from the new carriageway.
  • Installation of a new drainage gully points and connection to the existing storm water relief system in the main carriageway.
  • Profiling of existing sub strata and completion of CBR testing prior to installation of capping layer and sub base to road and footpath areas.
  • The resurfacing of the existing concrete and macadam footways, together with the tie in to the recreation ground entrance.
  • Other minor associated works as required, such as installation of new precast edgings, replacement of inspection covers, adjustment of existing covers and reinstatement of road markings.
