Birch Coppice Industrial Park is home to many businesses across a range of sectors including logistics, manufacturing, and retail and as such needs to ensure its site infrastructure is maintained in excellent condition. Working alongside property managing agent Avison Young, Rio Surfacing carried out an extensive site survey to establish the priority areas for the initial road resurfacing works together with immediate health and safety related items.
To gain a robust finish to the selected road areas a polymer modified heavy duty surface course was chosen to provide a hardwearing surface for the regular HGV use of the site. In this case proprietary asphalt Ultiphalt HD was approved and installed to manufacturers recommended detail by our directly employed site teams.
Works were carried out over a period of 3 weeks and were phased to allow for completion of large road areas while maintaining access for the tenants at all times. Critical areas were completed at night, again, to ensure no disruption to day-to-day business operations.
As with any job of this nature, tenant communication is key to ensure concerned parties have adequate notice of when areas will be out of use. Prior to the commencement of works our site management team made contact with all involved and developed an agreeable programme of works to best serve all.
Works involved the removal of existing surfaces by cold planing, preparation for new surfaces and completion of installation within the agreed timing programme. Additional items to the main surfacing works were replacement of damaged D400 chamber covers, repair of concrete kerbs, installation of keep left bollards and general removal of safety related trip hazzards in the footway. We have since been engaged to carry out the next phase of the project.
