Balcony Works – Mastic Asphalt
Walmley Golf Club has recently undergone a significant upgrade with the installation of a new asphalt terrace. This project was aimed at enhancing the outdoor space, providing members with a durable and functional area for relaxation and socializing. The installation process faced several challenges, especially in the redesign of falls in the deck using asphalt screed. Asphalt screed was used as the project was time critical, asphalt screed is moisture free and can have finishes applied almost immediately . Achieving the correct fall for drainage was critical, as any misalignment could lead to pooling water beneath the decking system which in turn could attract insects and flies.
The process began with a 20mm asphalt waterproofing layer laid on separating membrane over asphalt screed. This waterproofing is crucial in safeguarding the terrace from water ingress, which could compromise its integrity over time. Following the waterproofing, a layer of Protectoboard was installed, offering an additional layer of protection to the Mastic Asphalt and ensuring that the composite decking would remain stable and free from moisture-related issues.
Finally, the project was completed with the installation of a high-quality composite decking finish. The result is a sleek, low-maintenance, and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space that stands up to the elements, providing an ideal environment for club members to enjoy year-round.
