Roof Refurbishment – SIG Repoma Liquid Waterproofing
This striking church roof had deteriorated to such an extent that it had reached the end of its design life, leading to water ingress and damage to the building fabric. A permanent solution to sympathetically restore the roof to resemble its original glory was now required, whilst matching the colour and texture of the original copper membrane of the 1960s.
The unusual shape of the roof with over 75% of the overall area being vertical installation presented unique challenges for access to enable the works to be completed. Due to the complexity and shape of the roof structure, detailed scaffolding had to be erected to provide safe working access throughout all roof levels. Rio Asphalt & Paving Co Ltd and SIG worked closely with the Architect collaborating to find a solution that would be technically sound, as well as being suitable for use on this prominent Grade II listed building. The Repoma product that was chosen was successful in meeting all of these challenges As a liquid product, it could be overlaid on the existing membrane, meaning that the pattern and texture of the original finish can still be appreciated, something that was critical to retaining the integrity of the original architect’s vision.
Rio Asphalt and Paving Co Ltd’s skilled operatives were able to install the Repoma product creating an excellent finish. Consistency of application of liquid applied waterproofing system was maintained throughout. The clients brief was exceeded to create a uniform appearance throughout all elevations. The significant challenge was met throughout the transition from horizontal to vertical, delivered to the highest standards of “fit and finish” by our trained and highly experienced operatives.
