Case Studies
Carillon Court Shopping Centre, Loughborough
September 2016

Since its construction in 1971, the Carillon Court Shopping Centre ahs been the key town centre retail destination in Loughborough. In 2008, Jones Lang LaSalle received instruction to address the ongoing water ingress and aesthetic issues of the ageing multi-storey car park.

The 340 space car park presented a combination of rooftop, internal parking decks (some critically over occupied retail premises) and connecting ramps. The existing substrate was a mastic asphalt build-up, well past its service life. The challenge for the Rio Group, as the main contractors, was to deliver a waterproofing and surfacing solution that could cope with the demands of the parking whilst causing minimum disruption for both customer and businesses.

In order to significantly reduce the costs, disruption and risks associated with asphalt removal, the Triflex DFS heavy duty thick layer waterproofing and surfacing systems were specified. They could demonstrate a 20 year record of successful asphalt overlay.

Able to withstand levels of trafficking which cause failure in the majority of competition, the c.a. 4mm thick Triflex DFS Systems are known throughout the industry to offer excellent durability and ultimately best value over their 15 to 20 year design life.

“I would like to tell you how happy I am with the car park refurbishment. The works were carried out quickly and efficiently with very little disruption to customers. I am extremely happy with the quality of the finished product.” Baljit Kooner, Centre Manager, Carillon Court Shopping Centre.
